Story

We need your help this Christmas! Fill a stocking is back for 2018!

Last year we launched our fill a stocking campaign for Christmas and its back this year! Weve been inspired by our Saluki cross, Susie and her incredible resilience. She is, by far, the brightest star shining this Christmas.

Susie was found limping through a petrol station forecourt with socks tied so tightly round three of her legs they had caused wounds so deep they went down to the bone. Her fourth leg was broken and had started to heal in the wrong position. She was emaciated and had skin issues.

You can see the CCTV of her at the petrol station via this link. CCTV footage

She was in awful condition and we werent sure if she was going to make it. Thankfully, after two months of love and rehabilitation she is a different dog. She has gained weight and the light is back in her eyes. Her wounds are virtually healed; however her broken leg had healed in the wrong position because she had not been treated at the time of the injury, and the best thing for her was amputation. She has adapted brilliantly to having just three legs. Her fun and gentle personality shines through and we have to question why anyone would treat her so cruelly. Despite the RSPCAs best efforts Susies former owners have not been located but we are just thankful that she is now happy, safe and set to have her best ever Christmas!

Susie suffered as people tied socks to three of her legs but now we want her and all the animals at the centre to benefit from stockings. We need you all to help us fill our stocking for Susie and her friends.

Join us through the days of Advent and help us fill our virtual Christmas stocking.

We will post an animal story every day of Advent on our Just Giving campaign page. We want you to follow us through the 24 days and help us raise vital funds for our cats and dogs. Bookmark our page and check back every day until Christmas Eve or follow us on Facebook (@RSPCAWHS) and Twitter (@RSPCA_WHS).

We have a special role within the RSPCA as we are a cruelty case boarding centre. This means we care for dogs and cats removed by the Inspectorate from situations of cruelty, abuse and neglect. We care for and rehabilitate them whilst the legal processes against their owners go through court.

This means we care for some very damaged animals, both emotionally and physically, and have the added challenge of meeting their welfare needs in a kennel and cattery environment for prolonged periods of time. Once animals are either signed over or we win their cases in court, they are usually transferred to other branches to find their forever homes.

Sadly, we cant tell you about all the animals that are in our care, at present. This has to remain strictly confidential as legal proceedings are taking place. The stories you hear with named animals have moved on for rehoming and any unnamed animals are currently in our care.

Your donations could buy food for a cat with special dietary requirements as a result of being starved, buy training equipment to aid the rehabilitation of a dogs thats been beaten, or pay for vital veterinary treatment to ensure our cats and dogs can go on to find new forever homes.

Please donate to help animals in need this Christmas.
