Story

We'd like to share a story from one of our clients to show just how much your support can make a difference in the lives of these young families!

I came to Florence Crittenton when I was 18 and pregnant. It was hard being away from family and friends and knowing that I always had stuff to work on. It was hard but I know now that I needed to be away from my community otherwise I would have failed. I was making poor decisions with my peer group and myself. Now I have all the tools I need in my tool belt to be successful. I know I can be perfectly fine by myself and that I do not need to be influenced by others and that I will be completely ok without that negative support group I had before.

The most helpful thing about being at Florence Crittenton was watching other people modeling how to parent. Getting really good constructive parenting advice as well as attending Circle of Security Parenting Classes helped me learn how to make by baby feel safe and secure. They really helped me understand the impact of negatives and positives in my babys life.

One on one therapy was difficult but helped a lot. It helped me categorize and prioritize what I needed to work on. It helped me address CD struggles. I feel set up for success and not relapse when I go home. Family therapy was very helpful especially for the transition home. My mom and I both know what we need to work on. Group therapy was helpful to work through things with peers.

Staff was very supportive and encouraging for me to keep going to school. They really helped me manage breastfeeding/pumping while going to school. I never could have breastfed like I did without their help. They also helped me manage my workload. I graduated this weekend!!

When I first came to Florence Crittenton I was very afraid, mad and felt very alone. But I clicked with staff and peers fairly quickly which helped a lot. Then I started to really enjoy it. Its important to take advantage of all the stuff that you can learn at Florence Crittenton. Its worth it. You will only get as much out of it as you give to it. The staff do an amazing job. Its important to want help- realize that you need it. I couldnt have done any of this by myself. I am ready to leave but I have loved this place. I never would be the parent I am, without Florence Crittenton.

I want to say a really big thank you. You have helped me be the best mom not just to my Sophia but to all my children that I might have in the future. You do an amazing job you change lives. Thank you does not seem enough. I could not have been successful at this on my own.
