Story

During the past 13 years KMF (ably supported by our customers, suppliers, friends and family), have now contributed a total of £200,000 in donations to the Dougie Mac Hospice.

We have now made an ambitious commitment to add a further £100,000 to the DMH in conjunction with several local like minded fundraisers

To this end March 2020 will see us embark on a challenge involving a 5 day trek across the Kungsleden in the Arctic Circle

The Kungsleden or Kings Trail is situated some 250km into the Arctic Circle in the far north of Sweden. This is one of Scandanavias most visually stunning and isolated areas and will provide a backdrop for what will be a tremendous Challenge.

Challengers will ski the most northerly section with the aim of covering 116 kms from Abisko to Nikkaluotka, including a 30 km section from Abiskojaure to Vistas, Nalla and back to the original route at Salka before finishing at the foot of the glaciated Kebnekaise, the highest peak in Sweden, standing at 2104 metres.

We will ski with our 15kg backpacks from hut to hut, freshen up with a sauna and a naked roll in the snow to wash. Cut holes in the ice to bring water to cook with and drink, split birch logs for the wood burners to keep warm, and cover up to 30 kms a day on cross country skis. There will be very limited access to the usual mod cons, just a never ending and constantly wilderness environment. Herds of reindeer, arctic fox and hare, and the fiercesome wolverine are the only inhabitants here in winter.

A truly unique mental and physical event .
