Story

Sadie is twelve years old. Her mum is unwell, her dad's not around, and its Sadie's job to take care of her mum and little brother. But who takes care of Sadie?

At MYTime, we work to provide Sadie and the other 800,000 young carers like her in the UK with the support, opportunities and friendship that every child deserves. Young carers are aged between 5 and 18, they are responsible for looking after relatives who may have a disability, illness mental health issue or a drug/alcohol problem.

We believe that no child's destiny should be defined by their beginning, so we exist to champion this incredibly compassionate group of young people and to help them in every way we can to fulfil their full potential.

As a result of the covid-19 pandemic we had to cancel all of the amazing activities we had planned for our young carers over the Easter break and beyond. As a result of the outbreak these incredible children, who do so much to support members of their family, have missed out on their opportunity for some rest, relaxation and a chance to put themselves first. Many of the family members these children are caring for are extremely vulnerable, the worry and responsibility these young carers face on a normal day about their loved one will have increased ten fold as a result of the pandemic.

MYTime have responded to the challenging situation our young carers find themselves in reaching out and creating a MYTime @ Home programme. This is a series of online activities that give young carers a valuable break from their responsibilities, allow them to take a little bit of time back for themselves and to help show them that we are still here for them and that we care.

We have reached out to lots of incredible people to help us put these activities together- sports people, singers, musicians, poets, writers, photographers, yoga teachers- the list is amazing. Check out our most recent video from none other that Scott Maslen (Jack from Eastenders) on our MYTime Young Carers YouTube channel.

By you taking part in the fantastic '2.6 challenge' you can help us raise critical funds which will enable us to keep our 'MYTime @ Home' programme going and to help us plan an amazing series of events for our young carers to take part in when this is all over!

Thank you so much for all your help, we are so unbelievably grateful.
