The development of our Grade II listed chapel and attached community rooms to transform a currently unusable historic space into a beacon of warmth, accessibility, and creativity for the residents of Upton upon Severn.
The development of our Grade II listed chapel and attached community rooms to transform a currently unusable historic space into a beacon of warmth, accessibility, and creativity for the residents of Upton upon Severn.
Rooted in our Christian faith, Upton upon Severn Baptist Church is dedicated to serving and supporting the community through impactful initiatives. Sunday Gatherings enable worship and spiritual growth, fostering connection. Open throughout the week, the Shared Front Room is a welcoming environment to connect, chat, and seek support. The church addresses food waste by running a Community Fridge initiative, providing fresh and frozen produce.
In the Donation Box café people can enjoy simple soups and bakes, paying what they can afford. Talk groups, breakfasts, and the Ark Toddler Group offer friendship and support. The church also participates in the Festival Angels initiative to provide support during the many local music festivals.
Collaborating with organisations we coordinate the local Foodbank ensuring those facing food insecurity have access to nourishing meals. TheSHED, and wellbeing groups improve mental and physical wellbeing, and drop-ins from Digibus, Job Coaches, and Citizens Advice offer practical support. Dementia Cafe, in partnership with AgeUK, and Neighbourhood Matters Drop Ins with the local Policing Team also take place regularly.
Having reached capacity with the current usable space, the need continues to grow.
The chapel building will undergo a comprehensive renovation, with the exterior rerendered and the interior lime plastered. Pews will be reduced to create space, exposing the baptistry. A raised platform will be added and the listed organ restored. Heating, lighting, and an enlarged foyer with a new glass partition will be included. The kitchen will be extended to meet increasing demand, and the toilets will be reconfigured and expanded.
The Wellspring will provide a quiet and reflective space for contemplation, alongside opportunities to explore creativity. Through strategic partnerships with festivals and a dedicated focus on showcasing the talents of local artists, we seek to cultivate a space that inspires and educates, making the arts more accessible, fostering a sense of belonging and connection among residents. We also will strengthen opportunities for community groups, young people, older persons, and support groups.
By creating a space that encourages collaboration and inclusivity, we hope to secure a legacy that will be cherished by generations to come.
