THANK YOU to everyone who contributed through Justgiving or gave direct donations. We have now raised the funds to purchase the High House Chapel.
The historic 1760 High House Methodist Chapel was established following visits to Upper Weardale by John Wesley since when it has become the oldest purpose built Methodist Chapel in the world holding continuous weekly service. Sadly the need for costly renovation works have proven too much for the Fellowship to survive and will close in September 2019. The Weardale Museum has been located in the adjoining Manse for 35 years and intends to purchase the Chapel, renovate and adapt it to become the Weardale Heritage Centre where we will expand our folk museum, including our John Wesley material, introduce new exhibitions (including LEGO models) and also create a "Methodist Tapestry Collection", telling the High House story and inviting Churches and Chapels throughout the UK and beyond to tell their story in tapestry form. Further information will be published via facebook and also www.weardalemuseum.co.uk
