Story
BWS has an excellent reputation for performing good music well. The choir performed a very-well-received Messiah 18 months ago with a superb set of young, professional soloists who connected well with the audience. It was a very moving rendition of this popular work. We were accompanied by organ only and many people said they would like to hear a repeat performance with orchestra. We have often worked before with the 18th Century Sinfonia, the non-costume arm of the 18th Century Concert Orchestra who play period instruments. In the past they have introduced themselves to our audience and talked about what makes their instruments special and different from their modern counterparts. It would be wonderful to bring such a special concert to more people in the Stoke/ Newcastle area. The 18th Century Sinfonia says:-"We support and accompany many choirs and choral societies who wish to achieve high level performances of period works accompanied by an outstanding orchestra playing on authentic instruments."We would also like to attract music students from local schools and as we charge only £2 for young people, it makes our concerts very accessible for them. One happy audience member wrote the following after our previous performance:- "Just returned home from a wonderful performance at St Andrews.I enjoyed it so very much; as an ex chorister (not BWS) it was all in my head and filled me with such emotion. I always have maintained that to sing Messiah is like an act of worship, and being immersed in those lovely sounds made it doubly so. Thank you. Vivienne Cotton"And an anonymous comment sent to us said:"Just a note to say what a superb Messiah. Extremely high standard. One of BWS' very best" - which we were thrilled by!If you can't contribute at the moment. then please come and hear our performance on 20 May 2017.
