Story
Sex workers are often targeted by violent offenders because they think sex workers will not report crimes or that when they do, the women will not be believed. Stigma and prejudice also means sex workers can work in a more hidden manner or lack support networks, making them more vulnerable to violence.
This year Basis Sex Work Project will be marking the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers (Dec. 172016) with a campaign running from Dec. 1 - 17 - “#17daysofaction”.
We want to 1) raise greater awareness of violence against sex workers 2) generate funds to support our efforts to prevent violence against sexworkers and to support sex workers who have experienced violenceWe'll be hosting an Art Exhibition, an All Night Outreach and lots of smaller fundraisers. If you’d like to support us by holding your own event, support us via “a red umbrella” on social media or anything else please get in touch!!
