Story

795 million, around one in nine of the world’s population are undernourished and exist on less than £1 a day. Hunger kills more people than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. Three children die every minute from drinking dirty water. With reliable access to clean water, thousands of lives could be saved each day. Every 3.6 seconds, a child dies due to hunger. 805 million people are still living with chronic persistent hunger on a daily basis.

The launch of Striving against Starvation, the annual BCT Food Parcel Programme, coincides this year with World Hunger Day on 28th May 2018.

The drive will take place through May and July and the aim is to provide aid to the poor, particularly widows and orphans in the most destitute and deprived areas of Pakistan, Myanmar Rohingya, Yemen, Tanzania, Kenya, Afghanistan, Niger, Somaliland, Chad, Mali, Liberia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Benin.

In the UK, we are supporting food banks which provide essential food to those living under the bread line.

The average cost for a typical food parcel (oil, rice, wheat, flour, sugar, tea etc), is £25 and will feed a family of 4-5 people for a whole month.
