Story
Supporting African Ecologists
20 years ago we began funding research by African ecologists working in some of the poorest countries in the World. Every year we have made 7-8 grants of between £8-10,000 to help them carry out small scale innovative research projects with community impact. Working closely with our partners the Tropical Biology Association we have supported research research projects in; Kenya, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Zambia, Benin, Ghana, Madagascar and Cote d’Ivoire. With your help we can do more.
Training for African Ecologists
Our partners the Tropical Biology Association is running a training course in publishing and communications that will transform the careers of young African conservation scientists. This will help them develop both confidence and skills to become more active players in the global scientific community through publishing papers and communicating their work more widely and make a postive impact on their communities.
Recognising Talent and Increasing Capacity
In 2012 we received 65 eligible applications for our Ecologists in Africa grants scheme. By 2015 that number had risen to 116. The quality of research proposals has improved. 20% of applications are now marked above 80% by the assessment panel. With your help we want to raise enough money to ensure that we can fund at least one additional research project in Africa in 2018.
Small Donation Big Impact
A relatively small investment now could pay dividends for us all. Ecological and environmental problems do not respect borders. We need to fund African scientists to help us find the right solutions. A small investment now in support and training for African ecologists could make a big impact on the future of our planet and will transform their careers and their communities.
So, please make a donation now or start fundraising to support Ecologists in Africa.
