Story
The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra's education and community programme provides 75,000 opportunities for people to engage in music-making each year.
New Music Director Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla is deeply committed to music education and will personally lead at least one major educational project each year. In 2016-17 she will be conducting four schools' concerts in for over 8,000 secondary school children.
“I wish that the Orchestra and I will find ways to plant a seed of desire for music in their hearts” Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla
As part of the CBSO's commitment that every young person growing up in Birmingham should have an opportunity to hear the orchestra performing live, each Year 7 child in a Birmingham state school will be offered a free ticket to a schools concert. In January 2017, around 5,500 children will be attending as part of that scheme.
