Story
The tower at St Lawrence Church in Chobham was built in the early 1400s and is perhaps earlier still.
But it is in trouble. An inspection discovered serious problems of moisture retention in the brickwork and as a result the stones are crumbling and losing their faces. The heart of the problem is the pointing material.
It is the wrong sort and not allowing the stone to breathe, so it needs to be removed.
It is going to be a long and expensive job and it is planned for summer 2018. Before then the church needs to raise at least £200,000.An application for help has been made to the Heritage Lottery Fund but we also need to raise a large proportion of the funds in the parish.
Will you help?
