Story
Cure Leukaemia is the official charity partner of Birmingham City Football Club and the Club has set a target of raising enough funds by International Nurses Day on Saturday May 12th to fund a specialist research nurse for one year.
It costs £45,000 to fund a nurse for a year and the nurse Birmingham City and its fans fund will operate at the Centre for Clinical Haematology at Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The nurse will give blood cancer patients, that have exhausted standard treatments for the disease, access to potentially life-extending or life-saving clinical trials. Without the nurses Cure Leukaemia funds these trials simply would not run and patients would miss out on these potentially curative treatments.
To raise the funds Birmingham City will be offering fans the opportunity to add £1 to the ticket purchase price for the final match of the season against Fulham at St Andrew's on Sunday May 6th. All funds raised from this initiative will go towards the target.
In addition, all funds raised at the Club's End of Season Awards Dinner at the ICC in Birmingham on Monday 7th May will also contribute towards the campaign.
Then in the days leading up to and including International Nurses Day on Saturday May 12th the Birmingham City family will be encouraged to donate what they can to ensure the inspiration goal is reached.
