Story
designermakersCIO (no. 1167949) is a charity in the heart of Diss, who’s stated objects are:
...to promote, improve and advance education in, and appreciation of, the arts ...through the facilitation and management of workshops and training courses in different design and craft skills, in particular but not exclusively, for people living in East Anglia, with the aim of engaging them in creative activities as a medium for learning.
Through designermakers21 it provides access to great art, craft and education for all.
Five years ago the Corn Hall Trust, having seen the building stand empty for four years, suggested to the Diss and Ipswich Quakers (who own 21 St Nicholas street) that opening craft studios & galleries for local crafts people would benefit all. The Quakers generously accepted the idea and so it began.
designermakers21 (the Home of designermakersCIO) - open to the public three days a week - now houses 11 full time craft studios, several galleries, a large exhibition space and a showcase gallery. An exciting programme of events and workshops runs throughout the year.
The 11 resident designer-makers have made it their mission to safeguard the expert craftsmanship and heritage skills of Diss, Norfolk and the wider region now and for the future. Visiting their open studios, members of the public can enjoy watching the designer-makers at work, participate in one of their workshops or attend a free Demonstration Day.
To make this possible, we must raise £300,000 urgently and need your help. We only have until 21st June 2019 to achieve this goal. Any gift, large or small from £20 to £20,000 will make a difference and is greatly appreciated.
Any donations received after 21/06/19, or in excess of £300,000, will be used to support designermakersCIO’s art, craft and education charity programmes.
