Story

Harting’s Church of St Mary & St Gabriel is one the finest examples of a 13th century church in southern England. Today this church is at the centre of a vibrant village community, providing a timeless space for Christian prayer and worship. The classic interior is beautiful, with its long nave under a central bell-tower, and its exquisite Angel Gabriel sculpture by Philip Jackson, as well as some magnificent stained glass windows. Sadly, however, the present lighting is old and of poor quality, casting inadequate light onto church-goers, and even plunging some areas into complete darkness. We have an opportunity to enhance the mood of the interior with some stunning modern lighting, thanks to our having - in Harting parish - a family that includes world-class lighting designer, Alexander Stileman. His truly inspiring lighting plan will provide not only a most attractive ambience for the church, but it will also be energy-efficient, dramatically lowering running costs for the future.
