Somalia is facing a severe drought and famine. For the past two years, Somalia has faced one of the worst droughts in 60 years. Food production has failed and thousands of livestock have died for lack of water and pasture. Thousands of children are malnourished for lack of food due to massive increases in food prices. Years of internal conflict and violence in Somalia has exacerbated the situation by restricting the movement of people and food. Women & children have moved to towns to look for food.   

This is an emergency appeal to reach 500 families who are currently living in camps for displaced people. The people living in the camps are in desperate need of water and food to survive for the next few months. This project will give $60 per family per month for the next six months to enable the families to buy food and water they need for survival. Majority of the targeted families moved from other regions especially Qoryooley 117km from the capital Mogadishu.  

The impact of this project is two-folds: 

 1. The project will enable 500 families to survive the effect of the ravaging droughts and famine in Somalia. The intervention will ensure about 300 vulnerable children successfully get out of danger associated with malnutrition. 2. The project will support the return of these families to their place of origin in the long run by linking them to other government and/or donor agencies services that supports livelihood' diversification and rebuilding.
