UPDATE (30.10.2017)
Halfway through and halfway there! Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Please keep donating so that we can achieve our target of £8,500 to pay for the new boiler, every donation is really appreciated.
Installation work has now been completed and we are basking in the joys of central heating once more! But although the work is done, we still need your help. If we are unable to raise the remaining funds our finances will be stretched and we will have to divert resources away from our other work to celebrate the life of Edward Jenner. Please continue to tell others about our campaign!
Why are we doing this?
The majority of us will have been vaccinated against many - what were once common, childhood diseases and our children and grandchildren go on benefiting from the practice today. We can also travel the world knowing we are protected against many indigenous diseases.
So who, when, where and what started this practice? Dr Edward Jenner, who lived and worked here in this house, and in 1789 proved that vaccinations with cowpox gave protection against smallpox. His work laid the foundation for developing the many vaccines available to us today.
We think he was an amazing man, who lived at an extraordinary time. We, the staff and volunteers of Dr Jenner's House, are passionate about sharing his many achievements with everyone here in his home, and want to give our visitors a warm welcome!
