The Eid Festival is a non-profitable Muslims' feast offered, freely, to all communities of Leicester irrespective of their gender, age, faith, colour, race, and social background. The festival runs in Victoria Park, the main park of Leicester. It occurs twice a year: Eid-ul-Fitr on the end of Ramadhan and Eid-ul-Adhha on the end of the pilgrimage season. The celebration is for one day from 9am to 4pm and open for the entire family, men, women and children. We have been organizing this festival since 2014 and in 2016 it attracted about 40,000 attendants. The festival starts with the 'Eid Prayer' followed by the 'Eid Speech' according to the Sunnah (i.e., methodology) of the Prophet (SAAW). BBC, ITV and the local media cover the Festival.
We think that the 'Eid Festival' in Victoria park helps Leicester communities to better tolerate each other, integrate with each other and feel of stronger belonging to Leicester and UK in general as their national land.
We believe the festival should be felt equally by all people specially the children and the young, therefore, we provide: marquee, refreshments, funfair rides, inflatable attractions, face painting and balloon modelling free of charge to all attendants. The festival offers an occasion for the traders to sell their own goods and many charities to present themselves to the people in their own trade and charity stalls. The festival is linked with the people's identity, happiness and well-being. It presents a positive image of Islam and offers a tool to improve the inter-community relations in Leicester providing support for Leicester as a multiple cultural City. After all, Islam is a multi-cultural faith.
The two festivals per year cost, on average, more than £32,000. We need your generous donation to cover the cost of the Eid festival.
