Story

This year, thanks to support from Butterfield, which is generously sponsoring the event, the first 250 participants will receive a pair of Bermudan-style socks to wear during the male cancer awareness week. The charity hopes that businesses will once again allow their workforce to support the cause and don shorts for the week commencing Monday 2nd July. 'We hope that businesses will kindly "support the short" by signing up any of their employees who want to take part,' says Dan Collins, MUG's Chairman.

Money raised from this year's Bermuda Shorts Week will pay for the continued supply of sun cream dispensers in schools around the Bailiwick. Parents are still asked to ensure their child goes to school with sun cream on in the summer, however these dispensers will enable children to reapply sun cream after P.E, swimming or before lunch and break times.

Michael Richards, MUG council member, says: 'With skin cancer rates being higher in the Channel Islands compared to the UK, MUG is determined to raise awareness and increase sun cream protection around the island. Educating the next generation now will ensure a healthier future for the island.'
