Story
Did you know there are 1.8 billion young people in the world? Half the world is under 30 and 9 in 10 of these young people live in developing countries? This is the largest youth population there has ever been. We are in an era of peak youth and the Peak Youth generation have the potential to solve the world’s greatest challenges. Climate, conflict and poverty will be affected by their decisions.
Solar has big plans to support Restless’s mission of ‘Pushing Boundaries. Shaping today. Creating tomorrow’ with volunteering and fundraising initiatives packed in throughout the year. Our first fundraiser is #RideforEva. Eva, a young girl supported by Restless Development in Tanzania, launched a petition to ask her leaders to keep their promises and help her community access clean water. Eva and her classmates have big ambitions for their future, but without access to basic things like clean water, electricity and nutritious food, it’s hard for them to stay in school and achieve them. This is particularly challenging for girls like Eva, who in the developing world are often denied equal access to education and are hit hardest by the effects of extreme poverty. Eva wrote to US President Barack Obama - he endorsed her calls for action in a speech made at the UN General Assembly. Turn your volume up and watch Eva and Obama's video here At that assembly world leaders from all 193 nations agreed to a new set of Global Goals, including targets about clean water and sanitation.
To date we have cycled over 800km and 2 of our Solarites have visited incredible Restless projects in Tanzania. Now fantastic members of the Solar Family have signed up to Skydive, run the Birmingham 1/2 Marathon and compete at the 10km Wolf Run obstacle course! Please give generously so we can all really make a difference to the education and empowerment of the Peak Youth generation.
