Story
Throughout our church's history, interior changes have regularly been made for practical purposes or aesthetic reasons to reflect the way the building was being used or in response to the ever changing expectations of society. Over the last 2 years, through discussion and expediency, our Parochial Church Council has become more secure its vision and clearer about the ongoing needs of the parish: further change is now necessary.
Within the last 12 months, the adjacent Women's Institute Hall, long used as a community facility, has closed: the Old Vicarage, behind the church, has been sold and with that, the only toilet that the church had access to is no longer available. Our aim is to ensure the church remains an active, welcoming and suitable place for worship but, at the same time, we want to provide a venue which meets the social needs of our wider community.
Wherever possible we aim to address energy efficiency issues and match the aims and aspirations of our local neighbourhood plan. We want to create an open, flexible space for functions in the nave; we want to install toilets and provide an area suitable for the preparation of refreshments; we want to ensure that all parts of our building are accessible to people of all ages and all abilities; we want the church to be a place where we can hold concerts, exhibitions, workshops, meetings, plays and social events; we want to install an efficient, zoned, underfloor heating system and we want to maintain an intimate space for quiet prayer, worship and reflection.
We have plans in place and great ambitions for the future but the changes we need and would like to make are not cheap. We have raised well over £100,000 from within our community but we are still well short of our target. Would you please help?
Every donation received will help us move nearer to our target and enable us to provide this much needed community facility whilst securing the future of our much loved church building.
Thank you!
