Story
Norfolk now has the third highest levels of cases of dementia in our region with over 16,000 people living with dementia, with over 3800 new cases each year. Nationally 1 in 6 people are over 65, but in Norfolk this is 1 in 4 so each year more and more people will be effected by dementia in their families.
Throughout 2017 Norwich Theatre Royal and Norwich Playhouse developed our work with people living with dementia and their carers with a wide range of initiatives including performances, workshops and training. Over 200 members of staff and volunteers have undertaken specialist training to learn more about the condition and how they can help create dementia-friendly communities.
Your support through our Christmas Appeal will help us deliver a 6-month creative programme based in Stage Two and out in the community, working with professional artists and highly trained support staff to raise awareness of dementia but provide activities. Carers, families and those living with dementia will be able to take part in workshops, performances and access additional support that will help them to enjoy themselves, be positive and happy.
To continue with our work we need you help! Your donation will allow us to expand our programme and support the delivery of our Creative Matters Season in May 2018, a month of creative activities, programmes and workshops that will explore and discuss the impact on those living with dementia and their carers and enable us to develop workshops led by professional artists and highly trained support staff out into the community.
