Story
The conservation appeal encompasses a total of 70 of our rare books.
These beautiful and rare volumes are a portal to learning about and enjoying the art in our collection. They are vital to curatorial research and are works of art in their own right.
The project aims to conserve these volumes, which are presently facing removal from public access due to their deteriorated state. Once restored, the books will continue to be fully available to all in our public library.
Conserving these books in 2018 is essential. Throughout 2018 the Wallace Collection celebrates the bicentenary of its founder, Sir Richard Wallace. Ensuring that the books are available to a wide audience maintains the spirit with which the Collection was left to the nation by Sir Richard and Lady Wallace. By bequeathing their collection to the nation, they desired to make over 5,000 works of art and the pleasure, learning and tradition they come with, available to all.
In order to offer each book the appropriate care and treatment it deserves, we need your help to raise £7,000.
