Story
Welsh tenor Trystan Llyr Griffith is from Clunderwen, Pembrokeshire. In 2005, he received a Scholarship to Trinity University College, Carmarthen to study a degree course in Theatre, Music and Media where he performed in various musical shows. He recently completed a Postgraduate Master of Arts Vocal degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London and is currently continuing his studies on a postgraduate course in Opera Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. Trystan was recently named as the ‘Voice of Wales’ by Decca Records from a search of over 600 singers in a series televised by S4C. He is also one of the first recipients of a Study Award from the Bryn Terfel Foundation and subsequently performed with Bryn in concert last year. Other prizes and awards include the 2012 MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year award, Sybil Tutton Award in 2012 and the W. Towyn Roberts scholarship at the National Eisteddfod in 2011. At the 2009 National Eisteddfod he won the Osborne Roberts Memorial Prize, the London Male Voice Choir Scholarship and the David Lloyd and Jean Skidmore Scholarship for the most promising tenor at the Eisteddfod. Concert highlights include a concert at the Hay on Wye Festival with Bryn Terfel, a performance at the ‘Brynfest’ at the Southbank Centre in London and a recital at the Cardiff Music Festival. Future engagements include the role of Male Chorus in The Rape of Lucretia for RWCMD and guest soloist in a concert tour of Australia with Morriston Orpheus Choir.
