After nearly 20 years since I last rode a bicycle, well further than the shop and back, I have signed up for the Coast to Coast charity bike ride. It's a 3 day 140 mile journey from Whitehaven to Tynemouth.  The route will cross the Lake District and Nothern Pennines and then on to the North Sea coast line.

Being the sort of chap that often acts first and thinks later, I was a little concerned when I read things like "gruelling hill climbs".  But you have to finish what you start!

In February last year our gorgeous daughter Chloe was diagnosed with a condition called Nystagmus.  Nystagmus is an incurable eye condition characterised by an involuntary movement of the eyes which often seriously reduces vision.

Following the initial shock and panic, we did as most parents would do in this situation, and went against medical advice and consulted the internet for information. After scaring ourselves silly, we eventually came across the Nystagmus Network.  The Nystagmus Network (NN) is a UK charity run by individuals and families affected by Nystagmus.  We have found their support and advice invaluable in helping us to accept and understand the diagnosis better.

Chloe is now a typical mischievous toddler who is into everything and loves going to nursery.  Until Chloe can talk and tell us what she can see we will not know the extent of her vision, but are keeping our fingers crossed.

I have set myself a personal challenge of raising £1000 for the charity over the next year.  Please help in supporting this fantastic cause, which has helped us so much, and help finance essential research which may one day find a cure.
