20 cyclists are cycling the Leeds - Liverpool Canal - all 127 miles from Liverpool to Leeds in one day, raising £127,000 for Jamie's Journey to support Jaime Lunn and his family.

Provided Covid rules allow, this will take place on 22 May

In April 2020 Jaime Lunn suffered a significant and life changing spinal injury at C6 level. This means he no longer has sensation below his chest, it also means that he is paralysed, that his hands no longer have the ability to pick things up with opposable thumbs. He no longer has bladder and bowel control. Jaime's body can't regulate its temperature which means he struggles with hands and arms that feel as cold as ice while the rest of him is hot. He has significantly reduced lung capacity and can struggle for hours to cough up the smallest amount of liquid that gets onto his chest. With this type of injury he is also at high risk from autonomic dysreflexia. It causes extreme hypertension and can lead to cerebral haemorrhage and death.

Jaime spent seven months in hospital during one of the most challenging times for the NHS. Staffing levels were often critically low, many of the therapeutic and additional services were reduced or no longer available and he understands his rehabilitation was significantly below par. His children, Florence and Seth couldn't visit him for many many weeks and months and it took a lot of reassurance before they finally believed that Daddy wasn't going to die. They had to grow up and take on so much more than he would have ever wanted them to at this age.

Jaime's Journey is a support group set up by friends of Jaime and Caroline to help raise funds and also manage the various projects to adapt their house and purchase equipment. We need all the financial help we can get to enable us to help make Jaime and his family as normal a life as possible.

The adaptions to Jaime's house will start in March, thanks to an initial sum raised by friends. However, more funds are needed to complete the adaption and purchase specialist equipment, along with physiotherapy.
