1st Newport Girls’ Brigade are a Christian uniformed youth group and meet every Wednesday evening (during term time). We are based at Castlehold Baptist Church, Newport, Isle of Wight.

As part of our new badge, Living Well we are undertaking our “Living Well Virtual Walking Fundraising Challenge”.

The members and leaders are going to use our times of daily exercise to walk the distance from Castlehold Baptist Church, Newport, Isle of Wight to Girls’ Brigade Ministries Headquarters in Derbyshire and back again. The distance is 400 miles. We are doing this as a fundraising challenge as we wanted to do something to support our local community.

Funds raised through our efforts to walk this distance, and may be even further, will be split between 2 local charities and our own group. We will be supporting the Isle of Wight Foodbank and Revive because they are doing so much for our local community, particularly at this time. For our own group we would like to raise some funds not only to support what we are currently doing (our group funds have reduced by over £500), but also so that, when it is safe to meet up again in person, that we could do something special.

All funds raised from this challenge will be split equally between these causes.

The challenge started on 13 January and will end on 28 February. We will be tracking progress and we will be putting updates on our Facebook page/group.

Please support the girls and leaders that are taking part – 400 miles is the equivalent of 800,000 steps, which is quite a lot!
