Crowdfunding is a new type of fundraising where you can raise funds for your own personal cause, even if you're not a registered nonprofit.
The page owner is responsible for the distribution of funds raised.
Hi. My name is Nam, and I'm a student at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls. Currently, Y9 are working on a project called Campaignmakers; my group and I decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to make a stand about something we care about, and everyone else should care about too.
Mental health issues, on some degree or another, affect all of us. In fact, in a classroom of 30 people, 3 people have a clinically diagnosable mental health condition. This not only affects them, but their family, friends and everyone they know.
Yet the subject of mental health is attached with an alarming amount of stigma. People still feel uncomfortable talking about their mental wellbeing.
Youth Mental Health Matters, an emerging charity, is working to change this.
Our group decided to support this charity because we believe their aims to educate people is at the core to understanding what mental health is and how to talk about it.
At AGGS I consider myself to be quite lucky with the amount of support the school can provide. We have weekly assemblies reminding us on how to cope with stress and how to look after our mental wellbeing. However, many other schools around the UK are not as priveleged. Many people feel as if they are unable to talk about how they are feeling.
Therefore I am doing a sponsored silence (15th April 15:15 - 29th April 15:15) lasting for two weeks- representing a fraction of the amount of time it takes on average to get help from an NHS psychiatrist. A fraction of the amount of time people like you and me are unable to talk about how they are feeling or their mental condition.
Your sponsorship will make a difference.
Your donation allows us to continue the work that we are doing. Whether it's creating resources, improving services, or hosting events, your donation allows us to fight for youth mental health. - YMHM
The more voices, the louder the shout! And we want to shout as loud as we can to make a difference. - YMHM
Thank you for your support.
*Youth Mental Health Matters is not yet a registered charity and therefore I was unable to create a fundraising page. However, all funds raised from this sponsored silence will be donated to YMHM.
