    Story

    FUND FOR THE MOONIES

PLEASE SUPPORT & SHARE TO ALL, ESPECIALLY WITHIN THE GLOBAL RUGBY FAMILY!

New Zealander Geoffrey Edward Moon passed away in untimely and tragic circumstances in January 2019 whilst on rugby coaching assignment in Italy. Only a few weeks previously he and his family had just enjoyed a wonderful holiday in Cairns, Australia. Before celebrating only his 52nd birthday on Christmas Eve 2018.

To his loving wife Angela, and kids Jessie, Sean and DJ, he will forever be remembered as a proud, devoted loving husband and father.

To the rest of us he was a teacher, colleague, mentor, coach or simply a friend. Hailing from South Auckland and very proud of it, he deservedly gained the moniker of the Godfather of South Auckland Rugby.

All monies raised with this fund will go directly to Ange and the kids to help provide support for them through this very difficult period not least with the significant costs of repatriation, funeral for 2000+ mourners, and upcoming future living expenses. One or two less worries - so please donate as generously as you can. No amounts too big or small.

Moonie had a singularly unique ability to impact the lives of all people he encountered in an incredibly inspirational way. Through inclusiveness and comedic rhetoric he made young people laugh, engage, then believe in themselves and believe they could achieve no matter what their circumstances or start in life. Geoff ignited hard work and excellence as the cornerstones to moulding fine young men and women through his ability to create disciplined culture that cared for and challenged everyone around him and always brought out the very best in everybody in his environment.

At schools, clubs or professionally with Auckland , Auckland Blues, The RFU or Bristol Rugby using rugby football as his main vehicle he inspired several generations to be the very best they could be, producing more senior All Blacks and International Test players for Tonga, Samoa and England, along with hundreds of Junior International, Super Rugby, Premiership & NPC players than any other coach in modern times.

All Blacks - Keven Mealamu, Jerome Kaino, Jerry Collins, Eroni Clarke, Charles Faumuina, Andrew Blowers, Jack Goodhue. Samoa‘s Junior Paramore, Alfie To’ola, Jonny Fa'amatuainu, Englands Mako Vunipola & Dave Attwood. To name just a fraction who came under Moonies influence!

NZ Herald Link - Auckland Coach’s Tragic Passing

A wonderful man that enlightened every environment he entered and left those he encountered always richer for it.

Simply much more than one of the finest sports coaches to grace rugby union football, at all schools, amateur and professional elite levels, he was one of the finest humans to ever be on this earth. A great dad, husband and coach, mentor and dear friend.

Rest In Love Brother Moonie - losing you today has dimmed the World. We lost one of the best today!

To Angela Moon, Jessica Jade Moon, Sean and DJ our thoughts and prayers always - nothing can console, but in time wonderful memories will be plentiful!
