Story
In December 2019 one of lifes true legends was cruelly taken from his family, friends and colleagues.
Stevie McCormick will always be remembered for his outgoing, fun-loving, banter filled approach to life.
Stevie was a very influential committee member and coach with North Ayrshire Athletics Club and he left his mark on his local community in many ways gathering funds for the club and supporting its members wherever he could.
He will also be remembered for his professionalism, dedication and absolute passion for “Public Order” Policing, whether he was delivering a training input, leading the front line or advising Gold Command. His television debut was Gold Standard - only he could proclaim “Its Ma Bat” in the way he did!
Above all else he is recognised as being a loving husband to Pamela and a completely dedicated Dad to his beloved Rebecca. Stevie always had a sparkle in his eye when mentioning Pamela and Rebecca. There is no question he lived for both.
So.... the “804 Challenge” has been created to raise funds to support Rebeccas future.
The Challenge: As a collective group we want to run, cycle or walk a combined 804 miles (minimum) on Sunday 20 September 2020. S804 was Stevies shoulder number.
Its open to everyone (no matter how Stevie touched your life) so we hope to see many many people taking part.
You choose whether to run, walk or cycle 8.04km anytime that day, anywhere and in whatever company the Scottish Governments CoVID guidelines will allow us.
What we ask is that everyone taking part does 4 things:
1. Commits to the event and pledges an initial £20
2. smiles on 20th September while completing their 8.04km.
3. Raises whatever funds they possibly can, through sponsorship, in memory of Stevie and pledges it to this page.
4. Encourage others to take part!
The thinking is if we hold the event on Sunday 20 September 2020, this gives us plenty of time to get fit and by holding it over the course of the day allows everyone the opportunity to take part whenever they can (allowing for shifts etc).
We hope to have people taking part from across the UK and hopefully the world as Stevie had a massive appeal to so many people whose lives he touched and improved.
You can do your 8.04 km (which is just 5 miles) by whatever means you can - just not in a car, plain, bus or train!
There is always the option to donate to the cause with no obligation to take part in the event on 20 September. Its all up to you.
So.......all you need to do is: pledge your £20 to this page and when you have done this email colinconvery73@gmail.com to confirm -
Go for it.
PLEASE ALSO SHARE THIS PAGE FAR AND WIDE TO GET AS MANY OF STEVIES FRIENDS, FAMILY AND COLLEAGUES INVOLVED.
OH.... AND YOU CAN DONATE AS MUCH AS YOU WISH.
