    Story

After travelling to Cambodia, and having the pleasure of meeting a local monk in Siem Reap called Kong. We quickly learnt about the poverty in Cambodia and of the charity he works for called CBAVC (Cambodian Buddhism Association for Vulnerable Children), an NGO. The country is still recovering from the civil war which ended in 1975 which was one of the bloodiest genocides in history. This has resulted in a lost generation, a lot of displaced families, not knowing if they are even dead or alive. As a result it has had a massive social impact.

Every year hundreds of children under the age of 5 years old die because of the lack of clean drinking water, despite the fact Cambodia does not have a deficit of water. This is down to the fact there is no real infrastructure such as we have here in other developed countries where water is treated and made safe for us to drink.

We are aiming to raise at least enough money to provide a community with a water well and clean water. In order to do that myself and my partner have agreed to embark on a tough journey of going sober for three months (over my birthday, the Christmas period and New Year). We began our journey on Halloween, 31st October 2017 and will finish 90 days later at the end of January. Although our experience may be tough it will in no way compare to the every day struggles experiences by these amazing communities in Cambodia.

We would be ever so grateful if you could support us in our journey, and in turn make a real difference at the heart of the problem, as with this association all the money goes directly to the people that need it. Any amount you can afford, however little would be amazing as it all counts. All the money raised goes directly to the charity and local people help to build the wells for no wage other than the cost of food.

As a safety net, if either of us fail, we have agreed to put in $300 of our own money to contribute to a well. But may I emphasize that we have not embarked on this challenge with a view to fail, but to help change lives. Cambodian Buddhist Association for Vulnerable Children website provides further information.

For further details of all the other projects they support, including sponsoring children's education please read here. At the end of the 90 days we will report back (via our Buddhist monk friend) the positive effects from the fundraising.

What your money could buy the vulnerable children.

Thank you for taking the time to read, I sincerely hope you can offer some support, whether that's by a donation or words of support.
