Story
Bristol Disability Equality Forum is a Disabled people's organisation. We campaign for a better quality of life for Disabled people in Bristol. Only this year, the Mayor himself indicated that it was the Forum’s response to the latest budget proposals that led to changes to the transport proposals. This included dropping their plans to stop Disabled people using their bus pass before 9.30am; dropping their plans to scrap free companion bus passes for those people unable to use buses on their own; dropping their plans to stop people using concessionary bus passes on community transport; and dropping their plans to charge people who need an accessible parking bay outside their home.
History
Bristol Disability Equality Forum was set up as a community group by Bristol City Council in 1995. This was done so that they could consult with Disabled people on how to improve disability equality in Bristol and advise them on barriers to this. Along the way it became a much more proactive campaigning group, and is now a very active, vibrant and independently constituted voluntary sector organisation, underpinned by the Social Model of Disability.
Funding
Our funding currently comes from Bristol City Council; however, with all the cutbacks, that funding has been dramatically reduced. Without funding, we are not able to carry on our vital work to help improve Disabled people's lives. Anything you can donate would help us to carry on with our work.

At a time when Disabled people's quality of life has never been under threat so much because of the cutbacks, we really need BDEF to help us fight. We are having our funding cut, so this may mean we cannot continue without your support.
