    Story

On the 10th and 11th of June, a team of us from the Royal Air Force's Tactical Medical wing undertook the Cateran Yomp. We have been raising money for the Army Benevolent fund but we also want to raise in aid of Brain Tumour Research in support of our friend and colleague James Campling.

The Cateran Yomp is a 54.7 mile hike through the Highlands in 24 hours. The countless blisters, aching joints and muscles and the complete exhaustion were worth the causes that put us there, even when the hostile terrain and Scottish weather had us completely at our lowest. The one thought that kept me pushing through every barrier was the if James can find the strength to go to Antartica, then I have got no excuse for giving up in Scotland.

Originally from Grimsby, James attended university of Nottingham from 2007-10 and graduated as a Nurse. He then Joined the RAF and put his skills to the test during a tour of Afghanistan where his role was to safely return injured troops home.

He then deployed to Sierra leone to treat victims of Ebola and was on the team that brought the first medical volunteer to be infected back home.

A keen traveller, James was in Mexico when he first knew something was wrong, he suddenly became unable to speak for a while.

He was travelling alone in Finland when he received the diagnosis via a phone call. He was told he has a brain tumour, the usual life expectancy of which is 14 months.

At only 28 years old James has turned his attention to ensuring that this critically neglected disease receives the funding it needs to hopefully prevent other families going through this horrible ordeal.

He was there when others needed him.

He was a hero for those that needed saving.

Now it is our turn to help him in his hour of need
