John Hammond’s vision is that Breadfruit Trees can help alleviate poverty and promote self-sufficiency in developing parts of West Africa.
Specifically, that individuals, families, or small groups could be provided with a number of Breadfruit Trees after first being given sufficient training to plant, care for, and harvest fruit from them. Ongoing support in the way of advice and motivation could be provided through at least the first harvest season after which the recipients would have an ongoing source of both food and income.
John has already successfully implemented similar projects in Ghana, Nigeria and elsewhere in West Africa with a great deal of success, providing significant sustainable benefit to the local communities.
It is the intention that, with the assistance of his family and utilising John’s existing contacts in West Africa, the Breadfruit project would be formed to achieve the above.
Starting this long term project would be John's final contribution to West Africa.
