I, Christopher Briggs will be having my magnificent and fluffy mane of hair shaved off for a very worthy cause and need your help!

Why: A colleague and friend, Katie Hindley has for months been raising money to help her friend Terry Jones who at a mere 54 years old has children and grandchildren he should be able to stick around for. As I thought this was a very worthy cause I offered my hair.

Terry Jones was diagnosed with cancer 30 years ago. In May 2016 a secondary tumour was identified and that NOTHING further could be done.

Fortunately, Terry was referred to The Christie Hospital and the world-leading Professor of Urological Oncology, Noel Clarke took up the case.

As Chemo- and Radiotherapy weren't viable treatment options, an ELEVEN hour surgical procedure involving MULTIPLE surgical teams and requiring TEN blood transfusions gave the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of Terry’s cancer. Despite serious complications Terry came through it all and later analysis of the tumour cells have given doctors a better understanding of the challenges still faced.

While the marathon operation was funded by the NHS, the private consultations need to be paid for privately. In addition to this, further treatment and testing may need to be paid for privately due to it either being unavailable on the NHS or due to Terry not being seen as a ‘viable’ treatment candidate. This costs thousands 000s of £s.
