Dylan Is a true warrior, he is a funny, courageous, caring, cheeky, brave 11 year old, Of whom I am proud to call my son. Dylan has NF1, a genetic disorder which unfortunately mutated with only him. As a result of this Dylan copes with Renal Artery Stenosis, of which he has undergone 5 operations for in his short 11 years, yet still takes 3 different medications throughout each day to try and maintain a steady blood pressure, with constant monitoring as this condition is extremely volatile, and can be quite debilitating. However, on 10th March this year, we learnt that NF had given him yet another present, this time in the shape of a brain tumour. Dylan underwent a 13 and a half hour operation to try and remove a large tumour from his brain stem on 12th of April, a date which is now etched on my mind !! The journey that my Warrior has had since, has been one full of strength and bravery, numerous CT's, MRI's, swabs, blood test, two extra stays in hospital, infections and even 2 lumbar punctures, one of which that was truly horrific! He is still recovering but fighting all the way through, with intense physio, and support for his eyesight which was effected due to the server brain swelling and the surgery.
The reason I am looking to raise funds is to uphold a promise, it is for one of two promises I made my baby as he cried in my arms, scared for his future, and scared for his life, after receiving his diagnosis. The first promise was easy, and that was to hold his hand for the entire journey, my unconditional love for my son saw me through that one, but the second was that I would make one dream of his come true, just one dream, any dream, and Dylan said he would love to visit DisneyLand in America!!!!
So on 5th August this year, 5 months after his operation, myself and my partner will be abseiling 100 meters down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, to help raise funds to get Dylan to Disney.
Extra funds will be sent to GOSH, for his surgeons special MRI unit.
