Chris is a 36 year old Firefighter from Bexhill, East Sussex. He has been based at Bohemia Road for 13 years.
A few weeks weeks ago Chris was getting worrying symptoms. After a colonoscopy they found a 4cm tumour in his sigmoid colon. We have now learnt that this is a poorly differentiated tumour which has signet ring cells (the most rare and misunderstood- only 0.5% - 1% of bowel cancers are this type). After a CT scan it was realised quickly that he has a second mass measuring 5cm wrapped around his aorta and it is pressing on the IVC (main vein). So they said there was nothing more they could do than palliative chemo. However, since then he has undergone a further CT scan which has shown another mass in his testicle. They say that testicular cancer spreading to the aorta is quite common so he may be a very rare case whereby he has two primary cancers. If not, the bowel cancer has spread to more unusual areas which is even more rare!! After 2 days at the Royal Marsden Hospital they have finally agreed to do major surgery and get more answers and get the right treatment as both chemos will be very different. From the outcome of the surgery, Chris will be facing gruelling intensive chemo for many months and then a long recovery period. While Chris is in London, his wife Sarah, will be having to travel from Bexhill most days to be with him. Sarah is exprecting their 2nd baby who will be a little sister to their first child, Esmae.

Chris is a very proud family man who is constantly helping others before himself. Chris and Sarah are Trustees for a local charity called Charity for Kids and both play a pivotal part in the running of this exceptional charity.

Our aim is to raise money for Chris and his wonderful family to help them with travel, accommodation and any other expenses that they may encounter during the long journey ahead of them.
