Story
In late August 2015 Dean was sent to the West Norwich Hospital with a swollen leg. While here the doctor on duty noticed Dean had an enlarged vain on his neck indicating a potential problem with his lung. They ran tests and found 1-1.t litres of fluid had gathered around Dean’s heart.
The first week of September Dean was admitted into hospital so they could drain the fluid from his heart. Once the fluid was drained they sent it away to be tested. The tests results came back and it was discovered that Dean had an Inoperable Malignant Tumour. The hospital did not know what type of Leukaemia Dean had. In mid-September as the fluid had built up again around his heart, Dean was once again admitted to hospital. Fortunately this time it had worked, and on the 26th September 2015 Dean and Michelle were able to celebrate their wedding day.
Whilst on honeymoon they received a phone call from the hospital asking Dean to attend the hospital where Dean was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. Which was curable, but Dean would have to go through a series of Chemotherapy.
Dean started the Chemotherapy on the 5th October but having not worked Dean was sent to intensive care unit. Dean started his second Chemotherapy in November. Dean then started his third Chemotherapy at the start of February 2016. During this treatment Dean contracted double Pneumonia, and spent 7-10 days back on the Intensive Care Unit.
On the 31st May, Dean was back at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital to receive five more days of Chemotherapy. Sadly on the 14th June 2016 Dean passed away with multiple organ failure and Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.
We are looking to raise money to support patients and their families in Norfolk living with and supporting those with Leukaemia by -
contributing to the purchase of equipment which will make hospital stays for those affected more comfortable
supporting research into, and development of leukaemia treatments
funding support services
