Story
Hello everyone,
I'm currently studying to be a children's nurse- as part of my degree I am participating in a four week placement to Sri Lanka on July 15th 2017. I have always felt extremely passionate about nursing and it has always been a dream of mine to travel to less fortunate countries and spread the knowledge that I have experienced and learnt throughout my training so far. I will be volunteering and working within the local hospitals in Kandy to help care for those who need it. I am hoping to help on the labour ward, children's ward and surgical wards. This experience is going to open my eyes to the harsh realities of countries with low economic status- providing knowledge of the differing health care systems all over the world.
I am raising money to fund my trip and help provide medical equipment, toys and games for the children of Sri Lanka. It is known that distraction is the best method to help a child get through the barrier of pain in hospitals. Therefore, I would like to provide toys/stickers/teddies/pencils and more which will give that child a moment of comfort in their time of need.
I am going on my placement via a company called 'Work the World' who support medical students to achieve safe and reliable experiences abroad. I've included the link to the website if you wish to read more in depth to my trip and what it will involve.

Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Ellie x
