Simon and I went to Ethiopia in 2015 as we were trying to adopt a child. In the end, for various reasons it did not work out. Since then we decided that not becoming parents of an Ethiopian child would not mean the end of our Ethiopian adventure but it would be an incentive to do our best to make a difference for as many Ethiopian kids as possible. Amongst all the places we visited was a kindergarten run on a voluntary basis by a secondary school teacher. The kindergarten was set up to help single mothers look after their children while they would try to find work. It costs the mums that can afford it 2 US dollars a month to send their kids there, included in this is one proper meal a day that in some cases is the only meal they get. We also visited one of two schools set up and run by the Rispins, a British couple who left their careers in education in the Uk to go to Ethiopia in the 1970s to teach there. Thanks to all the contacts that we have managed to secure while we were in Ethiopia and the regular visits that we are planning we can ensure that every single penny will be used to give Ethiopian children the chance to learn in a safe environment. We are planning to install a wifi connection in the schools so that you will be able to see via Skype the changes that your donations will make. And if you want to get more involved and be part of these kids' education you could become an online teacher in one way or another. Our ultimate aim is to facilitate a way for committed Ethiopians to help the children in greatest need in their communities. This is not just about money, it is about a deeper level of sustainable involvement and development of local communities. Primarily it is about Ethiopians helping Ethiopians.
