    Story

    Hello everyone!

Thank you for taking your time to visit our Just Giving page.

As some of you know, we’re a group of 5 British and 5 Burkinabé individuals currently volunteering in Burkina Faso with Handicap Solidaire Burkina (HSB) ; a local NGO that fights to protect and promote the rights of disabled people. Over the last six weeks, we have undertaken many activities with HSB in a quest to change community perceptions towards disabled people and strengthen the organisation’s capacity. We’ve carried out some awareness raising sessions in schools and trained the staff in English and IT amongst other things.

Most importantly, we aim to empower disabled people through sport. Consequently, we decided together with HSB to build a basketball court in the heart of Pabré to promote sport for disabled people. We know the positive impact which disabled sport can have, not just for disabled people, but for their families and the wider communities in changing attitudes, and shining a light on what disabled people can do. It can change how disabled people feel about themselves in a profound way.

This court will allow thousands of people, both disabled and able bodied, the opportunity for accessible inclusive sport – something Pabré does not have. Contruction is already underway and we've worked hard to get the basketball pitch to this state and would very much like to complete it. The likeliness of completion relies on receiving the funds needed to accomplish our goal.

We need to raise £800 asap to complete the construction. This money will help us in many ways including the purchase of raw materials needed to continue the job. Let us remember that this is a sustainable project that will make a lasting impact on the community for years to come. Any contribution from you will make a difference to the lives of disabled people in Burkina and it's a step in the right direction for the protection and promotion of disability rights.

    Thank you for your support!

Great to see you are continuing Ludwig Guttman's transforming lives through sport ethos, with sport being a great leveller ... so get levelling that earth in readiness for the first game.
