My lovely sister and brother in law were given some sad news at their 20 week scan that their beautiful baby has Myelomeningocele the most severe form of spina bifida and hydrocephalus which is fluid on the brain. Of course they were devastated and we're asked to make a decision. They went away and spoke to family, researched this and spoke to people who have been in their position and decided they were going to give their precious baby a chance. They have been told their baby may never walk but they are willing to forever be it's legs. As a mum myself I can not imagine what they are going through but I want to help them any way I can. There is an operation which could double baby's chances of any mobility in its lower limbs. They do not know if they are even eligible yet but if they are it will all move pretty fast and with it being in Belgium, they would need to fund travel and accommodation so I wanted to have some funds in place for them. If they are not eligible they still are faced with many childhood operations, none of which are in Plymouth and one being just after birth so will still need some help. Baby is also likely to need specialist equipment such as wheel chairs etc they also have the worry of not working as much as they could because of all of this.
I am going to be putting my thinking cap on and organising some fund raising days (any help or ideas welcomed) so watch this space but in the mean time and I know many of their family and friends want to help somehow, any donation would be appreciated. Thank you in advance xxxx
