Helping Hands is a community project based in Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth.
We help low income familes, victims of domestic violence and homeless individuals and families. Many people we support are vulnerably housed and have the potential to become homeless, and others we see are homeless, rough sleeping or in b&b's, sofa surfing or other temporary accommodation.
Sadly when people get housed into a permanent place, they can't afford to furnish the flat or house with essentials such as beds, sofas, chest of drawers, kitchenware, wardrobes etc..so that's where Helping Hands step in.
With donations given by the local community, we are able to literally turn empty houses into homes. This is our house2home project.
Unfortunately we have recently found out that our storage facility that was gifted to us and where we have been for the last few years is now going to be sold on and we now have no where to go.
If we can't find another permanent storage facility soon, we will have to close our house2home project.
We been running this project since 2013 and since November 16 alone, we have had 120 referrals made to us from local children's centres, social services, family support groups, housing department, probation etc etc asking us for help with individuals and families in the area. There are so many homeless in district and 700/800 on the waiting list to be housed and we really need to keep this project alive as we provide such a vital service to so many in the area.
To the woman who has fleed domestic violence with her children with nothing but the clothes they are wearing, we are able to give them more clothing, furniture, toys for the children and we offer on going support through our day time support groups.
For the rough sleepers, we offer food and day time support, nvqs and work experience to help rebuild confidence and help people back to work.
We really need to continue this work and with your help we can.
