Holings Youth Association has been established since 2009, we facilitate and support young people (YP) growth through dependence to independence, by encouraging their personal and social development and enabling them to have a voice and place in their communities.
Manningham an area of Bradford - a community that is among the most deprived in the country.
“Bradford West is the joint fourth most deprived constituency in the country, according to the major new study (by JRF).”
According to the ward assessment 2016-17, Manningham has a higher proportion of young people than the district population aged 0-19.
Misuse of Drugs is perceived as a very big problem, 31% compared to the district 20.3%.
In July 2016, 102 people took part in our consultation. 75% of the people felt that ASB was rising.
The results on the hopes and achievements of YP growing up in this area can be devastating. Many YP have lack of positive role models and influential people in their life, thus resulting in unstable home life. This means these children are less likely to stay in main stream education, and leave without going into employment or further education.
The YP who will be accessing our project, some of which display high levels of behavioural and emotional problems e.g ADHD and some have specific diagnosed needs such as autism and dyspraxia.
The funds will enable the deprived youth to carry out much needed activities in sports. With this fund we want to deliver 45 sports sessions on a Saturday evening. The project will engage with up to 150 YP age 8 to 21.
We will also get YP to participate in issue based workshops. The workshops will cover topics identified by YP themselves.
Furthermore, the project will consist a summer programme, where YP can participate in outdoor education.
The Funds will give our staff, volunteers and YP opportunity to take part in training programmes, such as First Aid, Safeguarding, CSLA (Community Sports Leadership Awards) ASDAN etc.
