There are 34 women prisons in Kenya holding 8000 women and 1000 children. The children are often confined to the cells with their mothers all day and night. They do not get to enjoy their childhood like other children do. There is no play space, hardly any games or toys, no school or qualified teachers. Some of the women are in prison for petty crime or because they can not afford to pay bail money. Whatever the reason for the mothers being in prison, it is heartbreaking that the children are in effect also serving a prison sentence.

Eli will be turning five in February. He has a wonderful childhood with ample toys, games, experiences and is surrounded by people who love and adore him. He knows that some children are not so lucky and we've agreed this year to raise funds for the children of Thika Womens Prison instead of buying birthday presents.
