In February half-term 2017, 12 students from Queens Park Community School are flying out to Delhi, India where we will be volunteering for a local NGO, TenderHeart School. The school was set up to help further the education of disadvantaged village students, as well as providing the basic numeracy and literacy skills for children in the surrounding slums. It is an absolutely inspirational charity who believe in alleviating the poverty of rural villages in Northern India, improving their quality of life for the present and future through education. The founder and director Ms. Renu Bali has also opened up a special school on site and a women's empowerment programme in the basement, giving vocational training to under-privaledged young women - there are no boundaries to her phenomenal determination!
During our time there we will be staying at the school itself and working during the weekdays - teaching lessons based around our AS subjects and helping with the English teaching programme for those in slum areas in the afternoons. Our aid will be massively beneficial for the school as they are short- staffed and need more exposure to different teaching ideas and the creativity within learning.
I can't express to you enough how much this trip means to me, our school and the hundreds of unpriviledged children who we will be able to help. Please help me raise funds for my trip so that I can be involved in such an incredible charity. So far I have completed many fundraising initiatives - hair braiding, a school summer fair stall , a carboot sale, and will kick start many more - homemade christmas cards, cake sales, and a fun run in the upcoming year.
