Story
On Tuesday 3rd January 2017 as part of our volunteering section of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme, Jack, Ben and Alex are undertaking a sponsored bike ride along the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal path - a total distance of 60km.
This bike ride is to raise much needed funds for children living in absolute poverty and improve their life chances by helping to build 2 new classrooms at Thantwe School, Blantyre, Malawi, where they currently have 649 students and only 6 classrooms.
These funds are part of collective fund raising project, completed by volunteering DofE students at Chosen Hill school. We also have the opportunity in a couple of years to visit the school and see where the funds are being used.
This is our first fund raising effort and appreciate any donation regardless of size. We hope to update this page with photo's of our ride and thank you in advance for reading this.
Bye for now
Jack, Ben and Alex

7 years agoWell what a day - the boys arrived back at approx 5.30pm, cold, tired and minus one bike, unfortunately 1 of them ended up in the canal approx 2 miles from home!!! All was well though and he was pulled out safely. A fantastic distance of 67.9km (42m) was completed in approx 5hours such an achievement and they should be very proud of themselves. Money is still coming in and they have raised more than £300 double what their target was - so thank you to everyone for your support. Huge thanks also to Steve and Lewis who accompanied the boys.

7 years agoFirst off a huge, huge thanks for all your donations you have helped smash the boys target - thank you so much for helping to make a difference. Well today is the day and a cold, frosty -2°C greets the boys as final prep is underway. Bikes are checked, layers are added and off they go with 2 of the adult supervisors. They are leaving from Jack's house so the journey is going to be approx 66km and they are hoping to be back by about 4.30pm (or before it gets dark). Will keep you posted with further photos later on today.
