    Story

It’s my intention to complete fifty events. I started my challenge in early 2014, with the intention of completing them by the summer of 2015 at the significant age of 50, however, after surgery on my knee and foot, I have been delayed, so as I now approach the age of 52, I am back on track.
The challenge is not only to complete the events, but also raise money along the way. Why would I want to do this?   Well, because as a middle aged, over weight female, I am able bodied, therefore I can!
At 19, my Nephew Tom was diagnosed with an extremely rare degenerative neurological condition reported in fewer than 70 people worldwide! It’s cause is a faulty gene called “Tim” (TIMM8A to be medically correct)
Tom was born healthy, but went profoundly deaf as toddler and began experiencing movement and co-ordination difficulties in his teens.
His condition has worsened considerably in the last year and now requires constant supervision and care. Tom can no longer wash, dress, or feed himself or go to the toilet without assistance. He has limited mobility and uses a wheelchair when out and about. Tom is unable to eat and drink orally, Instead he is fed via tube directly into his stomach. This does not however, prevent him from frequenting that renowned culinary establishment known as Morrison’s Café!
The prognosis for Tom is not brilliant. The severity and the rate of progression of the condition varies in patients. Nonetheless, Tom will experience worsening of his symptoms in the coming years, including atrophy of his optic nerves (Blindness) and dementia.
This debilitating condition has a life changing impact on the whole family. Their home has been altered to accommodate a ground floor bedroom and bathroom for Tom & his carer.
To help Tom maintain as much independence for as long as he can, additional adaptations can be made. Any money raised by your kind donation will assist with these adaptations
Thank you for reading and let the challenge begin, well continue

Two weeks later on the 24th June, I'm swimming the Bantham Swoosh. The Swoosh is a world class 6km swim in a sandy bottomed estuary in Devon. The swim culminates in a “swoosh” as the ebbing tide is funnelled through a narrow section of river, speeding you along over the riverbed at up to four times your usual swimming speed. It can run at 8 knots. I'm in the Dawn swim at 4.30am, so can watch the beautiful sunrise. Hope they catch me before I get swept out to sea!!

10th June - I'm attempting The Salomon 25km Trail Race, it is graded ‘Hard’. This Technical, fast, flowing & rugged trail will take me around Derwent Water with the Watendlath Valley thrown in for good measure. Distance: 25km Ascent: 866m . This is surely worth a couple of quid? Apparently It will test me to my limit or get me set for longer trails later in the year!!
