    Story

    Hi I'm Rachel I'm 16 and I'm Junior Miss Morecambe and I'm raising money for Ward 84 at RMCH and for Variety Children's Charity. Ward 84 is extremely close to my heart as I had a bone marrow transplant there in July 2015 and they saved my life and the life of many of my friends aged 3-17. Ward 84 is actually the haematology and oncology ward at RMCH where they deal with many blood diseases including blood based cancers such as Leukaemia. Ward 84 is a charity that needs money to improve the facilities for the children and teenagers on the wards, when I was in the ward in July 2015 we bought a few special Dyson fans that cost a lot of money because normal fans are not permitted on the ward as people with no/low immune systems tend to be on this particular ward. Ward 84 is so close to my heart because they saved my life and all though people were dying in the rooms around me the staff managed to stay strong after deaths and come in my room with smiles on their faces they deserve as much money as they can get. The second Charity isn't as close to my heart but I think it's quite important, Variety Children's Charity is a charity that helps support young people that are sick, disabled or disadvantaged in the UK. They provide many services such as;
    Sunshine coaches - these are coaches used to transport children with special needs. Typically used for educational, recreational and vocational activities.
    Wheelchairs - on average Variety funds wheelchairs for a child every 6 days! And it's not just manual wheelchairs, the fund electric and sport wheelchairs too.
    Variety Great Days Out - they fund trips to take sick, disadvantaged or disabled children on.
    And much more.
    You can find out more about variety on their website.
