Story
Norwich Lowriders is a wheelchair basketball club that centers around opening the world of sport to children and young adults who perhaps in the past had never tried any sport. They not only teach you how to play the sport but they also teach you how to enjoy it. Lowriders help their players develop confidence and teach them that believing in themselves is the most important factor of being a success.
The reason why I am making this post is because this fantastic club needs help fundraising for some new chairs. Lowriders provide the players with their own chairs and make sure each fit the person and as the club has grown, the number of available chairs has decreased. We don't want anyone to be left out in this sport so, the only option is to fundraise for some new chairs.
My name is Lauren Saphir, more commonly known as Tango on court, I have been playing for over a year now I love the sport more than anything else in the world but I love the club even more and the people who support and encourage me to maximize my potential.
As a team, Norwich Lowriders has had extreme success, they have supported their players and even helped them get extremely high grades in P.E GCSEs. Lowriders aren't going to let disabilities get in the way of their dreams!
Three people who have previously played for Norwich Lowriders have gone on to become Paralympic legends: Alfie Hewitt (who won silver in the wheelchair tennis this year), Amy Conroy who won bronze and Will Smith who participates in Wheelchair Racing.
Three of our players train in the Junior GB Wheelchair Basketball team: Sam Mack, Alex Mitton and Joel Connor-Saunders who is is a disability sports ambassador for Lord's Taveners. The GB Junior team even played against the GB women's team, before!
Lowriders are an amazing team who have taught me that a disability doesn't mean I can't achieve my dreams. As long as I have passion, confidence and an army of wheelchairs behind me, I can do anything that I want!
